Northstar Travel Group is seeking a versatile writer to fill our Lodging and Meetings Editor position on our Business Travel News (BTN) team. This role will concentrate on writing news stories and longer trend features and case studies that pertain to the Lodging and Meetings categories. The position will be tasked with proposing, developing and delivering original story ideas and interviews with senior industry executives about complex trends and, often, business technologies impacting the buying and selling dynamics in the corporate managed travel space. The position will also follow broader managed travel trends for special projects and will contribute to research and focus topics monthly. 

In addition to written editorial content, the Lodging and Meetings Editor will represent BTN at industry conferences as an attendee, panelist or session moderator. This individual will build key contacts in both supplier and managed travel buyer positions and may be asked to moderate webinars or other live online forums. 

This is a remote position and is open to candidates based in the United States.  

 

Responsibilities:

Daily editorial responsibilities will include staying up-to-date on news and trends in the airline industry as it pertains to managed travel, and clearly communicating that information in a variety of formats: news briefs, long-form stories, charts and infographics. The BTN Lodging and Meetings Editor must distinguish between actual news and marketing spin, and comb through complex information. The position requires conference attendance to stay apprised of industry developments and trends, the ability to interview senior executives about complex issues and business technologies and the ability to propose, develop and deliver original story ideas for the managed travel market.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Versatile writer, ideally with a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in journalism or related concentration. This person will exhibit solid editorial judgment and the ability to distinguish between news and marketing. Attention to detail and accuracy are priority. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and take on challenges and complex information. Prior to hire, the successful candidate may be asked to complete an internal editorial test and produce a short news brief.

Related work Experience:

Prefer 5 years working in a business reporting capacity. Experience with online content management systems is a plus as is familiarity in managing content for social media distribution. 

Formal Education or Equivalent: 

Versatile writer, with a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in English, communications, journalism or other related concentration.
