Serving as a valuable part of the Human Resources team, the Coordinator will provide administrative and generalist support to the Human Resources department. The Coordinator’s primary focus will be in the areas of payroll, benefit administration and legal compliance but the position will also provide exposure to other areas of Human Resources, such as recruiting, performance management, and contributing to and enhancing Northstar’s strong corporate culture. The ideal candidate has 1+ years in a Human Resources or Benefit Administrator role or strong internships or other experience in these areas. Some HRIS use is strongly preferred. Our employees split their time between our Secaucus, NJ office (2 days) and working from home (3 days) and flexibility is provided.

  • Perform in-depth reference checks for candidates applying to open positions.
  • Review, develop, implement, and refine procedures, policies and work rules within the different areas of HR.
  • Facilitate employee understanding of benefit programs by regularly generating communication and provide counseling to employees/dependents as situations arise/upon direction.
  • Administer the wellness and perks programs, making strategic and functional recommendations, where necessary.
  • Work with HR Generalist in planning digital and in-person events, such as Take a Child To Work Day, parties and picnics, Wellness Fair and others.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of payroll using Paycom and works closely with Finance to ensure that payroll actions and records conform with accounting policies and procedures. 
  • Oversee and reviews all federal and state payroll tax reports and payments, including quarterly and year-end returns in conjunction with third party payroll vendor.
  • Act as liaison with insurance carriers and foster effective relationships with client representatives.
  • Review benefit provider invoices for accuracy and resolve discrepancies with carriers.
  • Review/process all independent contractor paperwork to ensure accuracy and compliance; track all independent contractor paperwork.
  • Maintain HRIS, ensuring complete accuracy.  Formulate and run reports.
  • Provide administrative support to the HR function including employee communications, record-keeping, file maintenance, HRIS entry and maintenance, and supply ordering and tracking.
  • Order business cards for the organization and liaise with vendors as needed to update logos and other needs.
  • Perform employment and mortgage verifications.
  • Conduct audits as necessary.
  • Provide and processes payroll reports required by benefit vendors (FSA, HSA, and CBP plans).
  • Assist with other HR functions, projects, and events.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree with major course work in Human Resources or a related field preferred.
  • 1-2 years of Human Resources, Payroll, or Benefit Administration experience or a strong combination of education and internships in these fields.
  • Exposure to a mainstream HRIS is strongly preferred.
  • Customer oriented approach, demonstrating full accessibility to answer employee questions and resolve issues.
  • Superb problem-solving and logic skills.
  • Strong Excel skills with demonstrable experience with project management and/or complex data reporting.
  • Good relationship and communications skills required.
