Top Travel Advisors and Suppliers Do Business At Global Travel Marketplace West

SECAUCUS, NJ - Travel Weekly and TravelAge West’s fourth-annual Global Travel Marketplace (GTM) West event took place this past weekend May 18-20, 2017 at the Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort & Spa in Henderson/Las Vegas, Nevada. GTM West is a two-and-a-half day appointment-based event where top-producing travel advisors and global travel suppliers conduct business face-to-face.

"GTM West is unique in so many ways, but what sets it apart the most is its ability to inspire, empower and reinvigorate the travel industry to book more business,” said Alicia Evanko-Lewis, Senior Vice President of Events, Travel Group, Northstar Travel Group. “Its effects were seen immediately, with agents and suppliers closing sales before the event’s official meetings began, which speaks to the power and prestige of being a part of the GTM community.”

“Even before GTM West started, one of the travel advisor attendees reached out to us for a quote in Argentina and Uruguay,” said Marc Harrison, managing director, Encounter Latin America DMC | Global Encounters. “She’s moving forward with the booking and we expect that many of the other advisors we’ve met with will be doing business with us too.”

The 100 travel advisors from the western United States and Canadian provinces in attendance were selected from a record 800+ applicants. One hundred three supplier companies engaged with travel advisors through more than 5,000 one-on-one pre-scheduled appointments, exclusive Boardroom presentations and networking events. 

Steve Ineson, owner, Four Seasons Travel Inc was referred to the event by a 2017 Ambassador and applied to attend after hearing from colleagues about the incredible business opportunity provided by GTM West. “The event has been phenomenal,” said Ineson. “There are several suppliers that have blown me away. Working with them will create great opportunities for us to grow our business by allowing us to work in smarter ways and provide a better service to our clients.” 

This year’s advisor roster included a number of young agencies, such as two-year-old Paradise Falls Travel Company, owned by Kirsten Calloway Smith. “We wanted to attend GTM West to partner with the very best of the best in the industry,” said Calloway Smith. “Our agency started out by booking a lot of Disney vacations and our clients are growing and evolving. We need to grow and evolve with them. GTM West will allow me to place clients with suppliers in regions that I never would have been able to before.”

First-time supplier attendees were impressed by the readiness of advisors to do business. “I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the quality of conversations that we’ve had at GTM West,” said Jim Tedesco, vice president sales – North America, Back Roads Touring Co. “All of the advisors selected to participate are approachable, wanting to learn and really are here to book.”

GTM West’s sister event, GTM, will be held at the Diplomat Beach Resort in Hollywood/Fort Lauderdale, Florida, July 9-11, 2017. Supplier and travel advisor participation are both sold out. Next year, GTM West will move to The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas May 15-17, 2018. Qualifying travel advisors must have a minimum of $1 million in annual sales for GTM, reside in the U.S. or Canada, have a global book of business and provide supplier references.
